While coming from Pune, take a left exit from the Solapur highway after crossing Bank of Baroda, Bhigwan Branch on State Highway 68. There is no bird sanctuary, no boards. Go on for 7 Kms to reach Diksal village and then take a right from Diksal towards the sugar plant. As you drive you will come across a lake and an abundance of an amazing variety of birds. A bird lover`s/Photographers paradise. You will see an old bridge and a small settlement. You can rent out boats for a bird watch trip from here.







 

 

Main Attractions

An abundace of birds - the most exquisite of them are the Flamingos. You will have Rudy Shelducks, Purple moorhen, Black Gulls, Purple Heron, Painted Stork, Wooly necked stork, Cormorants, Pied Kingfisher, Asian Openbill, WB Kingfisher, Pond heron, Yellow billed tern, Black headed white Ibis, Grey Heron among others.








Time to Visit

Best time is in the winters when the water is shallow and are the best breeding grounds for birds.
Jan - March may be a good choice.

Nothing of repute in Bhigwan, stay in Pune.

 

 

 

 

Food

There's no food here except at Hotel Sagar at Takrarwadi near the intersection with Pune Solapur road. (NH 9) The best option is to merge trips to Bhuleshwar and Jejuri temples and have lunch at Hotel Madhuban, a Veg restaurant on the Jejuri-Baramati road.
